Stage 1 – Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi

They say first impressions count…

They are right!

A large city of glass and towering buildings I was surprised at how young the city is! I mean it was only planned in the 1970’s! So it is really young but I really was amazed at the amount of green. Jeddah is also a desert city on the coast but it is much, much less green than AD.  Being young there is not so much ancient culture as with European cities so this will be quite an interesting trip seeing AD this week and Istanbul next week!

Top of the list of things to see: The Shiek Zayed Grand Mosque

Having been to the grand mosque in Bahrain I had high expectations…BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER!

Wow – there are almost no words to describe this magnificent structure that was built from 1996 to 2006! It is filled with amazingly beautiful features. The idea was to be a universal Mosque – with artisans from all around the world.

Standing in the center of the prayer hall is awe inspiring and humbling! It was stunning!
